Ford-F250 By Mark McCullough 1 comments. i have a 2005 f250 diesel and it started overheating.[1] i turned it off and let it cool down.[2] it was out of anitfreeze/coolant.[3] i added 3 gallons of coolant and when i started it it smoked like a freight train coming from the exhaust.[4] the mechanic later told me that this was actually white steam.[5] he said it was my EGR cooler.[6] i drove around for two days until he could change it and it steamed out the exhaust like crazy an overheated faster and faster.[7] it got to the point to where it would overheat every 10 miles and i had an ice chest full of water in the bed i would open the cap and fill a bottle to put in the coolant/antifreeze bottle.[8] over those two days i noticed it wouldnt smoke once you get moving or not as much but when you stop or just start it it smoked alot.[9] it started to hesitate ...
